Uninstall
What happens when you uninstall FormFence, the exact deletion timeline, and what to do beforehand.
You can uninstall FormFence from your Shopify admin at any time. This page covers what happens to your data and your subscription when you do.
Before you uninstall
If you're on Pro and want a record of any submissions you'd lose:
- Open the Passed log, click Export CSV
- Open the Blocked log, click Export CSV
- Store both files somewhere outside Shopify
You can also reply to any outstanding enquiries first via the in-app reply composer.
If something specific isn't working and that's why you're leaving, email formfence@harbourlabs.app first. There's a good chance it's a quick fix.
How to uninstall
- In the Shopify admin, go to Settings → Apps and sales channels
- Find FormFence in the list
- Click Uninstall
- Confirm
That's it. The app is removed from your admin immediately.
What happens at the moment of uninstall
- Your Pro subscription (if you had one) is cancelled by Shopify. You won't be charged for any future billing periods.
- The Theme App Extension is disabled by Shopify, so the honeypot field stops being injected into your contact form. Submissions go straight to Shopify as if FormFence had never been installed.
- Shopify fires the
app/uninstalledwebhook to FormFence. On receipt we delete:- Your OAuth token
- Your settings (sensitivity, business name, support email)
- Every submission row (passed and blocked)
- Every reply record
This deletion runs within seconds of the webhook arriving.
What happens 48 hours later
Shopify fires the shop/redact webhook as a backstop. On receipt we delete any residual data for your shop that survived the initial delete. In practice the first webhook does the work; this one exists to satisfy Shopify's mandatory data-protection contract.
After this point there's nothing left to delete.
Reinstalling later
If you reinstall FormFence on the same shop after uninstalling, you start fresh. Your previous settings, logs, and history are gone (Shopify's mandatory deletion is permanent). You'll need to reconfigure sensitivity, business name, and support email.
The Free plan is in effect by default after reinstall. If you want Pro back, click Upgrade to Pro to restart the subscription.
