Common issues — an empty dashboard, fewer dead SKUs than expected, estimated costs, and a stuck scan.
The dashboard is empty / “no dead stock”
Dead Stock Detective needs products with stock and some order history. A brand-new store, or one where nothing has crossed your dormancy threshold yet, will correctly show the all-clear state. Lower the dormancy threshold in settings if you want to surface borderline stock.
Fewer dead SKUs than I expected
Two common reasons:
- Never-sold products look new. A product’s creation date can’t be backdated, so a recently-added product isn’t dead yet even with no sales.
- The scan looks back one year. A SKU whose last sale was more than 12 months ago falls outside the window.
Capital shows a “~”
That SKU has no unit cost set in Shopify, so the figure is estimated at 50% of price. Add a cost in Shopify for an exact number.
A number looks off
The dashboard recomputes daily. After a big change, trigger a fresh scan from Settings → Connected store, or wait for the overnight recompute.
The scan seems stuck
First scans take a few minutes; very large catalogues can take longer. If it hasn’t finished after about 20 minutes, return to the app — you’ll be able to restart it from the welcome screen.
