Getting started

Install Nearby, add your store locations, switch on the product-page widget, and confirm it shows live in-stock locations.

This page walks you through installing Nearby, getting your locations in, turning on the storefront widget, and confirming it shows the right in-stock locations.

What you'll need

  • A Shopify store on any plan, with at least one physical location that holds inventory
  • An Online Store 2.0 theme (Dawn, Sense, Refresh, Horizon, or any other 2.0 theme)
  • About ten minutes

1. Install the app

  1. Install Nearby from the Shopify App Store listing
  2. Confirm the install in your Shopify admin

Nearby requests read-only access to your products, inventory, locations, and orders (read_products, read_inventory, read_locations, read_orders). It never writes to your catalogue or inventory.

2. Let the first inventory sync run

On install, Nearby imports your products, locations, and current stock levels from Shopify. This runs in the background and can take a few minutes on a large catalogue. After it completes, the app keeps itself in sync automatically using Shopify webhooks, so you never run it again by hand.

3. Add or confirm your locations

Open Stores in the Nearby admin. Each store maps to a Shopify location and needs an address so it can be placed on the map.

  • If your Shopify locations already have addresses, Nearby geocodes them automatically.
  • You can add opening hours, a phone number, and pickup details per store.
  • On Growth, you can import locations from your Google Business Profile in one step.

Your plan sets how many locations show on the storefront: Free covers 3, Starter 25, Growth unlimited. See Billing.

4. Switch on the storefront widget

The widget ships as a Shopify Theme App Extension, so there are no theme-code edits. To add it to your product page:

  1. In the Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes
  2. Click Customize on your live theme
  3. Open a Product template in the customiser
  4. Click Add block in the product section where you want the widget (usually under the buy button)
  5. Pick Nearby from the list of app blocks
  6. Click Save

5. Style it and preview

Back in the Nearby admin, open Widget to pick the widget style (compact or map), the map style, and the appearance (colours, labels). The admin shows a live preview as you change settings, so you can match your theme before anything ships. See the Settings reference.

6. Check a real product page

Open a product that has stock in more than one location on your live storefront. You should see the Nearby widget list the nearest in-stock locations with distances, and — on Starter and up — the map and "open now" hours.

What's next

  • Tune the widget and map on the Settings reference.
  • Read How it works for the mental model behind inventory sync and distance.
  • Upgrade to Starter or Growth when you want the full map, pickup, routes, or ROI analytics. See Billing.
